    1851 census: in Cooks Lane, Brightlingsea, Essex, Hazell (28, mariner), Ruth (26), Ruth E (3, scholar) and William H (2).

    1861 census: not found, apart from young Ruth (15) a house servant in High Street, Brightlingsea. I searched the whole of Brightlingsea without success - there were several Griggs families but not this one.

    1871 census: in Hearst Green, Brightlingsea, Essex, Hazel (49, mariner), Ruth (46), William H (22, mariner), Emma J (13) and Agneta E (7, scholar).

    1881 census: in Hearst Green, Brightlingsea, Essex, Hazell (59, master mariner) and Ruth (56).

    1891 census: in Duke Green, Brightlingsea, Essex, Hazell (69, master mariner) and Ruth (66).

    Hazell married Ruth Minter on 16 Aug 1844 in Brightlingsea, Essex. Ruth (daughter of William Minter and Ruth Wisstock QUILTER) was born before 24 Oct 1824 in St Osyth, Essex; was christened on 24 Oct 1824 in St Osyth, Essex; died on 2 Oct 1893 in Brightlingsea, Essex; was buried on 5 Oct 1893.
