| Notes |
- Ancestry's British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920 contains a record for Ernest. He joined the South African Overseas Expeditionary Force on 10 October 1917 at the Central Recruiting Depot, Whitehall London, giving the following details:
Birthplace: Upton Park, Essex
Age: 24 [he would actually have been only 19]
Next of kin: Grand-father Mr A R Minter, Gratheand(?), Downe Road, Hastings [Ernest's garndfather's name was John - he lived in Downe Road Hastings in 1911].
Profession: actor
Status: single
Previous service: Umvoti Mounted Rifles 1 year dis. 23 7 15. [This unit was invlolved in WW1 in South West African, 1914-15]
There's very little else in the record set other than brief medical report of a spell in the London General Hospital, Denmark Hill, SE5, suffering from malaria (contracted in GEA) and nephritis (deveoped in France), in May 1918. No indication of when Ernest was demobbed/discharged.
It seems likely that Ernest married Katherine BUGLEHOLE in 1918 and then went to South Africa, where he and Katherine divorced in 1921. Katherine re-married and Ernest died in 1930.
