    Notes 
    • Admitted a freeman of Canterbury in 1835, a dealer in hay and corn. Listed in Canterbury Poll of 1835 a freeman of Burgate Street and in 1865 of St Andrews. A railway clerk at 106 Upper Seymour Street, St Pancras in 1863. Listed in East Kent Poll of 1852 as of 23 Little Clarendon Street, London.

      1851 census: at 106 Upper Seymour Street, St Pancras, London, Edward (36, railway clerk), Sarah (34), Edward (12), John (9), Robert (7) and George (2), and Edward's father, John (65, widower, out of business) and Edward's sister [in law] Ann CAMPBELL, (27, born Whitstable, Kent).

      UK, Railway Employment Records, 1833-1963, at Ancestry.co.uk:
      A record of salaried officers kept by the London and North Western Railway company shows that Edward was appointed in October 1838, aged 24 on an annual salary of £80: a parcels clerk at Euston. By January 1851 his salary was £110, January 1852 £140 and January 1853 £150. A second record shows that in 1857, 1858 and 1859 Edward's salary was £160.
      Another record, for the Kilburn station Coaching Department, shows that Edward was promoted twice, on 1 Jan 1853 and again on 1 Jan 1854. It's from the latter date that Edward's salary reached £160 pa.
      Another London & North Western Railway record shows that Edward was dismissed from his £160 a year job as a parcels clerk on 31 Januray 1871.

      1861 census: at 106 Upper Seymour Street, St Pancras, London, Edward (46, clerk, L & NW railway), Sarah (42), Edward (22, railway clerk), John (19, railway clerk), Robert C (18, railway clerk) and George (12, scholar), and Edward's sister in law Ann CAMPBELL (39, born Whitstable, Kent, house servant).

      1871 census: at 47 College Place, St Pancras, Edward (56, clerk), Sarah (53), George (23, clerk) and niece Fanny CAMBRICE (19, servant, born Whitstable).

      The following entry in the Post Office Directory of the Six Home Counties, 1874, Vol. 2 Kent is believed to refer to this Edward Minter:
      E Minter, 39 Watling Street, Canterbury.

      England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations),1861-1941 (at Ancestry.co.uk, Nov 2010):
      26 March 1878 Effects under £1500. The Will of Edward Minter formerly of Symour-street Euston-square but late of 21 Grove-road Holloway both in the County of Middlesex Railway Clerk who died 29 December 1877 at 21 Grove-road was proved at the Principal Registry by Sarah Minter of 21 Grove-road Widow the Relict the sole Executrix.

      Edward Minter born May 1st 1814, died December 29 1877
      Also of Sarah beloved wife of the above, born March 2nd 1813, died April 17 1879.
      Near to this place lies interred the remains of Thomas Thurston who departed this life 30 March 1815 aged 60 years.
