Ancestry has Joseph's U.S., World War I Draft Registration Card, 1917-1918. 1920 US Federal Census: in Goodwater, Sully County, South Dakota (all HUNSLEY), Joseph W (head, 40, married 5 years, born England, father born England, rancher, stock ranch), Nellie H (wife, 39, born Iowa, father born US or NK), Marie A (daughter, 13, born South Dakota), Arthur W (son, 7, born South Dakota) and Chester H (son, 2 years 11 months, born South Dakota). The 1920 census is the last I've found featuring Joseph. In an email in January 2021, his grandson Jerry Hunsley said "the Joe hunsley that is buried in Riverside Cemetery * is my Grandfather Walts brother. They called him "peg legged j Joe " . I do not remember him but he was married to Nellie Smith and later divorced ." per findagrave.com, this Joe Hunsley died 3 December 1956. Jerry Hunsley says that Joe was "run over on the trolley that ran between East Pierre and West Pierre." * this bears out what is shown about Nellie in the 1930 census. 1930 US Federal Census: in Edgerton, Hanson County, South Dakota, Wm G DUNCAN (37, divorced, born Nebraska, farmer), Arthur DUNCAN (son, 8, born South Dakota), Nellie HUNSLEY (servant, 49, divorced, born Iowa, father born Germany) and Arthur HUNSLEY (Nellie's son, 17, born South Dakota). Joseph not found. 1940 US Federal Census: in Edgerton Township, Hanson County, South Dakota, Chester H HUNSLEY (23, single, born South Dakota) is shown as 'helper' along with Nellie H HUNSLEY (59, widow, born Iowa), shown as housekeeper - she was Chester's mother. Head of the household was William --- DUNCAN (47, widower, born Nebraska, farm manager).
