Churchwarden at Ash between 1733 and 1756 - signed the Parish Annual Return in 1734, 1735, 1744 and 1756.
Signed a Removal Order 3 June 1755 at St Leonard, Deal, as Churchwarden at Ash.
Witness at Ash on the 28 November 1754.
Buried aged 60.
From Cliff Minter: tombstone at Ash next Sandwich reads:
Mr Henry Minter ----- died 27 October 1761 age 61 (?)
also Mrs Ann Minter widow of above Mr Henry Minter died 21 March 1789 age (?).
Will dated 24 September 1760, proved by oath of Ann Minter relict, the sole executrix, on 12 December 1761 at Canterbury Consistory Court. The Will (ref Consistory Court Book 64, No. 398) was seen at Maidstone on 10 May 1954 by Kirkham Sidney Minter, who made the following notes.
Will of Henry Minter, Yeoman of Ash, nr. Sandwich
To loving wife, Ann Minter, and her assigns, for the term of her natural life, testator's house at Ash, with barns, stables, outhouses, edifices, buildings, orchard, yard, garden, land and heraditaments, lately in the occupation of William Marsh, but now in the testator's own occupation.
After wife's decease, this property to pass to sons, Henry and William Minter, in equal shares, as tenants in common and not as joint tenants.
Two properties at Staple, now or lately in occupation of Richard Brice and William Fox, bequeathed to son, Henry Minter.
Property at Ash, presently in occupation of John Foat, also messuage at Ash, at present being erected in place of one lately taken down and then in occupation of Richard Ellender, which testator intends to live in himself, when completed, also his malthouse and hop oasts at Ash, and two acres of arable land at Ash, at present or lately in occupation of Daniel Stoddard, also messuage or tenement, outhouses &c at Chartham, at present or lately in occupation of Edward Mutton, all bequeathed to son, William Minter.
Also to son, William Minter, messuage with carpenter's shop &c at Ash, now or lately in occupation of Robert? Harley.
To grand-daughter, Anna Gore, for the term of her natural life, 16 acres of marshland at Ash, now or lately in occupation of Richard Denne, to be held in trust for her by testator's brothers, Thomas Minter of the parish of Ash, carpenter, and George Minter of Staple, Yeoman. After her death, this property to pass to her children equally, or failing them to the children of Henry and William Minter.
All stocks of malt in malthouses &c bequeathed to son, William Minter.
To loving wife, Ann Minter, any part of testator's household goods and chattels which she may require to furnish a house for herself if she wishes to live apart from her son, Henry Minter, also the sum of £60, to be paid to her by son, Henry Minter, within two months of his father's death.
To son, William Minter, also the lease of farm and land at Ash granted to his father by -- Broom Esq., with crops growing thereon.
All other property bequeathed to son, Henry Minter.
If wife, Ann Minter, does not, within 3 months of her husband's death, relinquish all claims to interest, amounting to £15 a year, under the terms of their marriage settlement, she is to receive no advantage under this will.
Wife, Ann Minter, appointed sole executor and guardian of sons, Henry and William.
Witnesses: Edward George, Junr., Arthur Simmons, Sam. Simmons.
The Ash Family Reconstitution Files supplied by Cally Schneider contain the following:
"W 12 Dec 1761.
(possibly) when churchwarden with John May built gate and piers at West end of churchyard in 1755.
Kent Poll, 1754: occupier of house and land at Ash owned by John Garrett of St. Lawrence.
4 Apl 1743: could have voted for John Bax and his wife to be master and mistress of the workhouse."
