| Notes |
- Note. It's possible that this George Minter is the same person who appears as George John Minter in the 'Suffolk unknown' group. Proof is needed...
1851 census: not found. George's brother Charles was in the House of Industry at Wortham, Suffolk.
1861 census: not found.
1871 census: not found.
It's unclear how George came to marry in Hartlepool but his brother Charles was also there at the time of the 1871 census. It's possible they both went there in search of work.
George and Mary Ann's marriage doesn't seem to have lasted: the following census entries probably refer to them but as can be seen, separately.
1881
The entry for George Minter, 48, born Great Thornham, a pauper in the Chelsea Workhouse could refer to this George.
At 4 Todds Square, Hartlepool was Mary A Minter (head, married, 43, born Walcott, Norfolk.
1891
George not found.
At 13 Church Street, Stranton, West Hartlepool (recorded as WINTER), Mary A (head, widow, 51, office caretaker, born Ruston, Norfolk) and a visitor, Arthur J BELL (single, 17, farmers labourer, born Ruston, Norfolk).
1901
George not found.
At 13 Church Street, West Hartlepool, Mary Ann (head, widow, 62, office caretaker, born East Ruston, Norfolk).
Mary Ann died on 16 March 1904 and had made a Will, Probate of which was granted to Tobias Harry TILLY and his son of the same name, both solicitors of Church Street, West Hartlepool, perhaps where Mary Ann worked as caretaker.
