Herman Taylor Stone, 80, of 317 Oakland Drive, Collinsville, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Henry County, to Mattie Susan Wright Stone and Larkin McKinnley Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, C.D. Stone and Warren G. Stone.
He served in the Air Force during World War II and retired from DuPont with 30 years of services. A member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church for 34 years, he had served in a number of capacities including Sunday school teacher, deacon and director of the counting committee.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia E. Stone of the home; two daughters, Sue Galtress of Martinsville and Janet Shaw of Danville; five sisters, Lee Morse of Williamsburg, Elsie Perkins of Portsmouth, Doris Pattisall of Chatham, Virginia Williams of Williamsburg and Dorothy Freeman of Greensboro, N.C.; four brothers, Ralph Stone of Eden, N.C., Roy D. Stone and Bernard Stone, both of Bassett, and Larkin Kinnley "Ken" Stone Jr. of Martinsville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
