Stone Virginia Ashby Stone, 80, of 39 Leatherwood Circle, Martinsville, and formerly of Collinsville, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born on Nov. 13, 1925, in Henry County to James Luther Ashby and Georgia Bratton Ashby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Taylor Stone; and a brother, James Ashby. She was a homemaker and a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Sue S. Galtress of Martinsville and Janet S. Shaw of Danville; a sister, Annie May Donavant of Martinsville; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chatham Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Hatfield and the Rev. Roy McVey officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, before the service, and other times at the home of her daughter at 39 Leatherwood Circle, Martinsville. Memorials may be made to Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Chatham Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112. Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
