    Notes
    • I haven't been able to establish Joseph's ancestry and neither has the owner of the ancestry.com public member tree NORLANDIC SAGASV-4, from which some material shown here has been taken.

The earliest census record that seems reliably to relate to this Joseph in the 1840 version:

1840 US Federal Census: in Northern Division, Marshall County, Mississippi:
      Joseph Minter
      Males 20 - 30 ie born 1810 to 1820: 1
      Males 40 - 50 ie born 1790 to 1800: 1
      Females 10 - 15 ie born 1825 to 1830: 1
      Females 30 - 40 ie born 1800 to 1810: 1
This entry probably accounts for Joseph, his wife and son & daughter.

      Later census entries are:
1850 US Federal Census: in Precinct 1, Cass County, Texas: Joseph MINTER (60, farmer, born North Carolina), Mary MINTER (55, born North Carolina) and Dorthula (?) COKE (7, female, born Mississippi).
The related Slave Schedule shows Joseph as the owner of 11 slaves.

1860 US Federal Census: in Beat 5, Marion County, Texas: Joseph MINTER (69, farmer, born North Carolina), Mary MINTER (65, born North Carolina) and Harriet COCKE (33, born Alabama).

A gravestone in the Old Foundry Cemetery, Lodi, Marion County for Mary (died 1870, aged 74 years) and Joseph (died 1872, aged 82 years) is believed to belong to this Joseph & Mary. In addition to a photo of the gravestone, findagrave.com has a picture of a plaque which gives Joseph's and Mary's dates and the inscription "They donated this 5 acres of land for church and cemetery".

      Joseph's final census appearance was:
1870 US Federal Census: in Beat 4, Marion County, Texas: Joseph MINTER (80, born North Carolina), Mary D COKE (27, born Mississippi), Mary A COKE (9, born Texas) and Richard COKE (13, born Texas).
