- Living with parents in 1851 and 1861. Indentured for seven years as a compositor with Robert Shaw and Charles Bond of 137 Fetter Lane, London. Worked for the 'Law Times' in 1861: testimonial presented on leaving for his warm-hearted, self-sacrificing labours in the cause of the unfortunate needy. Joined 'The Sportsman' in 1871 and afterwards 'The Daily Telgraph' for 18 months before the 'Field and Queen'. Appointed printing manager of the 'Field and Queen', represented the London Topographical Society at Queen Victoria's Jubilee and the Paris Exhibition of 1889. A delegate at T.U.C, was Father of the Chapel for 20 years. Retired in 1909 due to ill health.
