Obituary from http://www.johnsonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com:
Byrd Henry Minter, owner of Dunrovin Boarding Kennels and Miniature Horse Farm in Spotsylvania County, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at his home.
Byrd was born October 6, 1930, in Lodge, MO. to Henry Clay and Sarah E. Minter. In 1948, Byrd joined the Navy, serving in Washington, DC. He met and married Gail S. Newcomb, who was also in the Navy. After several years, he transferred to the Air Force where he proudly served his country until his retirement in 1972.
After traveling throughout the world for 18 years, Byrd and Gail settled in Spotsylvania County and opened Dunrovin Boarding Kennels and Miniature Horse Farm, which they operated together for 35 years.
Although Byrd suffered from Alzheimer's Disease, he never lost his sense of humor, or his love of family, horses, or the many pets he cared for over the years.
Byrd was preceded in death by Gail, his beloved wife of 56 years, three sisters and two brothers.
Byrd is survived by one brother, Joe Minter of Missouri; four children: Karen Vollten and her husband, Larry; Sylvia Rouse and her husband, Gary; Danny Minter and his wife, Debbie; and Ralph Minter; seven grandchildren: Nick and Mark Vollten, Erik and Katrina Rouse, Chris, Heather and Spencer Minter; long-time friend and adopted family member, Judy Reid; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Arlington National Cemetery.
