| Notes |
- Executor of brother John's will in 1851.
1851 census: at 3 Rose Terrace, Bermondsey, London, Thomas (40, channel pilot (Trinity)), Mary (40), Thomas W (4), George J (3), Lydia S (2), Walter J (6 months) and 1 servant.
1861 census: at 2 York Terrace, Stepney, London, Thomas (50, licensed pilot by Trinity House), Mary (49), Thomas W (14, engineer apprentice), George J (13, scholar), Lydia S (12 (13, scholar), Kate M (8 (13, scholar) and 1 domestic servant. Sons Walter (10) and Ernest (7) were scholars at a school at 6 Victoria Terrace, Folkestone.
1871 census: still at 2 York Terrace, Thomas (widower, 60, Trinity pilot), Ernest C (17, master coopers school), Kate M (18, housekeeper), Lydia P (sister-in-law, married, 54, dressmaker, born Dover) and Susanna E FUEGA(??) (cousin, unmarried, 43, general servant domestic, born Holland, British Subject). Son George J (24, clerk, dock company) was lodging at 10 Fairlop Road, Leyton, London. No trace of Walter J or Thomas W.
England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations),1861-1941 (at Ancestry.co.uk, Nov 2010):
22 November 1875 Effects under £2000. The Will of Thomas Minter late of 3 Trinity-ground Mile End in the County of Middlesex who died 30 October 1875 at 3 Trinity-ground was proved at the Principal Registry by Ernest Charles Minter of 5 Wellesley-villas Wellesley-road Wanstead in the County of Essex Clerk in the War Office the Son and John William Sivyer of 17 Rectory-square Mile End Solicitor's Clerk the Executors.
There is some confusion about where Thomas's wife Mary POTTS was born. The IGI says 'born 24 March 1812, London'; the 1851 and 1861 censuses say Dover. There is another unresolved oddity: the 1861 census has an entry at 4 Guildhall Street, Folkestone for:
Mary (41, pilot's wife, born 'France, British Subject') and Lydia (12, pilot's daughter, born London, Middlesex). The age for Mary is wrong but the age for Lydia would be right. So was this an example of double counting or were this mother and daughter nothing to do with Thomas?
June 2009: Cliff Minter, while searching for something else among Deal pilots, found an entry which probably relates to this Thomas: 'aged 43 with a pilot's license, Limit of License - from London Bridge - Downs - Goodwin Sands - Ramsgate Harbour, for 1854'.
