  Notes	Alfred was chief of Portsmouth Docks; he had an accident at the docks which, according to his great grandson Sean McGrath, "did not kill him. He lived to be an elderly man of 80 or so dying in the Birmingham area around 1932. I have pictures of him as an old man. My mother, Isobel Randle, (1918-1999), remembered him well as a child. The fall affected his speech, so he was unable to talk easily or sensibly." Subsequently, Sean McGrath confirmed that the Arthur Randle whose death was registered in Solihull (near Birmingham) was probably his great grandfather, who after the death of his wife Jane, sometimes called Janie or Jeannie, went to live with his daughter Winifred and her husband Clive Atcherley. 1881 census: in Alma Road, Minster in Sheppey, Kent, (all RANDLE), Alfred (30, writer. Dock yard), Jane (31), Florence L (5), Ethel E (3) and Winifred M (1). 1891 census:at 48 Endymion Road, Lambeth, London, (all RANDLE), Jane (41), Florence (15, scholar), Ethel E (13, scholar), Winifred M (11, scholar) and Arthur M (4). 1901 census: at Church Lodge, Sarisbury, Hampshire, (all RANDLE), Alfred (50, retired (Civil Service)), Jane (51), Ethel (23), Winifred (21) and Arthur (14). 1911 census: at Mill House, Monks Horton, Nr Hythe, Kent, (all RANDLE), Alfred (60, pensioner (Navy List)), Jane (61, married 36 years, 4 children all living), Florence Louise (35, single, small holder) and Winifred Mary (31, single, small holder).
