Callahan Family Trees, a public members tree at ancestry.com, has Walter marrying Faye Florence ELLIOTT in 1923, and comments "On the marriage license Walt signs his name as "Earl W Laminter"". The following comment also appears: "Walter started using "La Minter" as a last name. He'd use it interchangeably thru the rest of his life, but never legally changed it. Hence you will find him under "La Minter" and "Minter". So far, we don't know why. The family name is "Minter"." I think it was possibly something to do with his stated 1920 occupation of clown, although that had stopped by 1930. 1930 US Federal Census: on West 8th Street, Pineville, Crook County, Oregon, Walter B La MINTER (head, 30, married at 24, born Missouri, painter, houses), Fay F La MINTER (wife, 29, married at 23, born Oregon) and Muriel F La MINTER (daughter, 5, born Oregon). 1940 US Federal Census: on East 6th Street, Pineville, Crook County, Oregon, Walter La MINTER (head, 41, born Texas, painter, contractor), Faye La MINTER (wife, 39, born Oregon, saleswoman, retail variety) and Muriel La MINTER (daughter, 15, born Oregon). Also a lodger Zora Le MAY (24, born Oregon, saleswoman, retail variety). Callahan Family Trees has Walter divorcing Faye on 15 December 1952: she is said then to have married again and divorced for a second time in 1963.
