A report in The Hearne Democrat of March 11 1927 is reproduced at findagrave.com and makes interesting reading: "Mr and Mrs C A Minter were apprised Monday of the death of their son-in-law, D D Cannon (sic - name is spelled this way throughout the article), which occurred some-time Sunday near McCamey, where he was employed by the Humble Oil Company. Just how Mr Cannon met his death was not positively known when The Democrat reporter got in communication with the Minter family. Meager detaisl which reached Hearne were to the effect that his body had been found in the mountains by members of a hunting party from which he had strayed, and that the indications were that death was caused by a lightning stroke.
