Notes |
- August 2014: Darren Bedingfield writes in his history of the Boxted Minters:
"If her second husband Henry Cook is to be equated with the man of the same name, age and abode as Hannah's husband, which appears likely, she was again widowed in 1842 after he collapsed and died in a Colchester pub. It was to be eight years before she married her third and final husband Thomas Smith."
Following on from the above I'm assuming that the death registration in Q3 1842 at Colchester related to Hannah's husband Henry Cook. And that the marriage registered at Colchester in Q4 1850 refers to Hannah's marriage to John Smith.
September 2014: Darren Bedingfield, on the confusion between 'Thomas Smith' and 'John Smith':
"... it is John not Thomas as shown the marriage certificate below and all the census entries record him as "John". However, the confusion arises in the fact that his name on the marriage certificate recorded him as "Thomas" ...another careless parson's error. The marriage solemnised section gives their correct names. Note Hannah's fathers name is described as "Edward Cook, farmer" instead of "Edward Minter, farmer" despite her being described as a widow and further complicating matters although all the evidence points to this being the correct entry and information; I have amended to John accordingly. They were married Christmas day 1850 at Colchester St Martin."
