  Notes	The 1939 Register includes Sylvia: it shows her living with Sidney Minter at 60 Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, with a birth date of 1 November 1937. Her surname was originally shown as Minter but has been altered twice. The first change was done in red ink - Minter is crossed out and BROOKS inserted. There is a note beside the entry, also in red but possibly in a different hand, which says "2.6.43 ADOPTION RCP". The second alteration crossed through BROOKS in favour of HALE and a marginal note suggests this was done on 5.2 59. It looks as if Sylvia was adopted some time after 1939, possibly in 1943, and became Sylvia BROOKS. She certainly married under this name. January 2025: Annalise Walker emailed to say "On behalf of my husbands family I have been putting together a family tree. My husband's grandmother was adopted at a young age...Her name is Sylvia Betty (Brooks) 1937 - 1987, she was adopted as a Brooks and married into The Hale family name."
