Notes |
- According to Gladys Vickers, Cecil was a telegraph boy and was killed when knocked from his bicycle.
A report of the inquest appeared in the Acton Gazette on Friday 30 October 1914. The accident took place the previous Tuesday. Cecil collided with a motor lorry, one wheel of which passed over him, and was then caught by the catcher of an advancing tram. Terribly injured, Cecil died just as he reached the Acton Cottage Hospital. Several witnesses gave evidence. The inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death and attached no blame to the driver of the lorry.
A record in the National Archives (found by James Earley) records an HM Treasury record saying "Post Office. C J B Minter, deceased, temporary boy messenger, London: compenstion to parents". It doesn't mention an amount.
