| Notes |
- According to the George/McClung Family Tree at ancestry.com, John was married to Fanney SMITH, who died in 1923, and had two children with her, Welmer in 1918 and Erastus in 1920. I can't find anything to confirm this information - the 1920 census would be especially useful but I cannot find the family in it. There's nothing to say what happened to Erastus, so I have left him out. Welmer/Wilmer is also problematic: George/McClung has got him confused with 'JP' and although Welmer/Wilmer appears in the 1930 and 1940 censuses, I can't find any trace of him subsequently.
The George/McClung Family Tree has John's second marriage, to Nettie Pearl Davis, as 22 July 1923 which means that 'JP' (who appears in the 1930 census) must have been Fanney's child.
