Lloyds Captains Register: Certificate of Competency No 21, 282 London 1868 Hayti 1472 1868 Group B Brenda 8589 1868 Group M Served as Mate although held Captain's certificate. 1861 census (indexed as WINTER by ancestry.com): at Foxford Place (?), Bermondsey, London, John B (32, mariner), Martha (24), John H (4, scholar), Martha (2, scholar) and Susanna (lodger, 55, born Folkestone). 1871 census: at 100 Drummond Road, Bermondsey, John (43, widower, mariner out of employ), Susannah (65, mother, widow, housekeeper), Harry (14, scholar), Martha (12, scholar), Mary (8, scholar), Leonard (6, scholar) and Florence (4, scholar). Although John remarried in 1871 and had a son the same year, he appears in 1881 as a widower, implying that his second wife died in the 1870s. But no sign of a relevant death registration has been found. But it's also possible that Ann took her son back to Holland and had no more to do with John. 1881 census: at 100 Drummond Road, Bermondsey, John (50(!), widower, mariner out of employ), Susannah (76, mother, widow, housekeeper), Martha (22, housekeeper), Mary (17, dressmaker), Leonard (16, apprentice blacksmith) and Florence (14, scholar). 1891 census: at 55 Union Road, Rotherhithe, London, John (62, widower, m. mariner), Susannah (mother, widow, 86), Florence (24, housekeeper) and married daughter Martha MACK (32).
