Form signed George Minter.
* why Minnie became Elizabeth Ann is a mystery.
It seems likely that George spent nearly a year in Wormwood Scrbs prison in 1912, for receiving stolen property. The doubt arises from the birth date, 1862, given on the record. But when George was released he was said to be going to live at 10 Kingsgate Road, Kilburn, occupation painter.
George, at the age of 44 years 11 months, a painter & decorator of 96 Carlton Vale, Kilburn, London NW, enlisted on 29 June 1915 into the Army Service Corps. He gave his next of kin as Minnie Minter, wife, same address. He was discharged, no longer fit for war service, on 11 June 1917 having served in France from 24 August 1915 to 20 November 1916. Service no. 124362. The Army were informed by George's wife about 1923 that George had died. (Death registered in Q2 1922; Minnie remarried in Q3 1923).
George was recruited as one of 'The Old Tough 'Uns'. A War Office letter dated 9 June 1915 says:
"The bearer of this form should be medically examined, and if passed fit should be attested for Army Service Corps ... endorsed "Loader". He should be between 40 and 45 years of age, organically sound, and able to lift 100 lbs. ... Ordinary standards of height and chest measurement will be waived. ... This form must be presented before 1st July 1915, after which date it will be considered cancelled." Such a form was completed in George's case.
