| Notes |
- On 25 April 1887 Clara appeared as a witness in the Ols Bailey trial of Ellen Knight (22) who was charged with 'unlawfully uttering counterfeit coin'. Clara said "My father keeps a newspaper and tobacconist's shop at Church Street, Kensington - on a Tuedsay evening towards the end of March, between 8 and 9 o'clock, the prisoner came in and asked for a Princess Novelette, price 1d., and gave me a half-crown - I gave her 2s. 5d. change, and took it to my father in the parlour, who tried it in the tester and gave it back to me, and I went after the prisoner and said "Ths is a bad half-crown you gave me" - she said "I am very sorry," and gave me back the change and the book - on 13th April I picked her out from a number of persons at Hammersmith Police-court."
After replying to cross-examination, Clara was replaced as a witness by her father, George Edward Minter. He said "I am the father of the last witness - about the end of March, on a Tuesday I think, she brought me a bad half-crown - I bent it in the tester easily - it was George III., and similar to this (produced) - directly I took it in my hand I found it was too light."
After several more witnesses, the defendant was found Not Guilty.
