    Notes
    • Ancestry.com has some of Edwin's service record. It shows that he was a lance corporal in the Royal Army Service Corps, having enlisted on 30 January 1915, giving his year of birth as 1891 and place of birth as Bermondsey. He was discharged ("Disembodied on Demobilisation") on 11 April 1919 and was awarded a pension (which expired on 14 October 1919) because of 'weakness of lung attrib under 20%'. Edwin learned to drive and became a heavy lorry driver. He suffered from pneumonia and was in Tooting Military Hospital between 21 July and 5 November 1917; it was noted that time in France (June to November 1916 and August 1918 to March 1919) and Salonika (November 1916 to May 1917), as a lorry driver, may have contributed to this. In his disabilty claim, Edwin said his health problems started in April 1917*: he had weakness of the chest, contracted malaria, then followed pneumonia and pleurisy and was eventually invalided home with tubercle of lung. He gave his employer prior to joining up as J A Warrington Rogers, 17 Victoria Street, London SW1. The medical examiner attributed Edwin's health problems to his war service and assessed the degree of disability as less than 20%.
Edwin's next of kin was his father H M Minter, 537 Devon Blgs, Tooley Street, London SE1 (another address given was 56 Gainsford St, Horsleydown, London SE).
When Edwin was given his medical on 30 January 1915 his stated age was 23 years and 122 days and his occupation, solicitor's clerk. His address on enlisting was 30 Cadbury Road, Bermondsey, London SE.
A further series of documents shows that at the age of 17 years 6 months, when he was a clerk employed by G R Crofts, 27 Old Queen Street, Westminster, and living at 56 Gainsford St, Horsleydown, London SE, Edwin joined the 5th London Brigade, RFA on 20 May 1909.
      * a record at findmypast.co.uk shows that Rifleman 3766 E M Minter, aged 25, was admitted to the 28th General Hospital on 14 April 1917 and stayed there until 8 May 1917 when he was transferred to No. 1 CD. He had pulmonary tuberculosis.
