  Notes	It's not certain that John was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth HURBRIDGE: the IGI identifies his parents only as Joseph and Elizabeth. But Weeley, where John was born, is only 2.4 miles west of Thorpe-le-Soken, and in 1841 John was living in the house next to Joseph & Elizabeth in Abbey Street, Thorpe. Inspection of the Weeley baptismal register might settle the matter. 1841 census: in Abbey Street, Thorpe-le-Soken, (all GARNHAM, all born Essex), John (28, ag lab), Mary (28), Mary (8), Mary Ann (7), John (4), Eliza (2) and Hannah (4 months). 1851 census: in Abbey Street, Thorpe-le-Soken, (all GARNHAM, all born Essex), John (38, ag lab, born Weeley, Essex), Mary (38, born Kirby, Essex), Eliza (12), Hannah (10), William (8) and George (3). All the children born Thorpe. 1861 census: in Clacton Road, Thorpe-le-Soken, (all GARNHAM, all born Essex), John (49, porter, born Weeley, Essex), Mary (49, born Kirby, Essex), Eliza (22), William (18, ag lab), George (13, ag lab), Frederick (9) and Emma (6). All the children born Thorpe. 1871 census: in Clacton Road, Thorpe-le-Soken, (all GARNHAM, all born Essex), John (58, labourer, born Thorp (sic), Essex), Mary (58, born Thorp (sic), Essex), George (23, butcher), Frederick (18, labourer) and John (9, scholar). All the children born Thorpe. John died in 1880: 1881 census: in Abbey Street, Thorpe-le-Soken (both GARNHAM), Mary (mother, widow, 69, born Kirby, Essex) and John (son, single, 19, journeyman butcher, born Thorpe) 1891 census: Mary (widow, 79, depending on relief, born Kirby, Essex) lived in Thorpe Road, Thorpe-le-Soken. In the same house was Sarah LAITE (13, domestic servant, born Tendring, Essex). Mary died in 1892.
