- Baptised the son of Mitchell (sic), mariner of Quay, and Ann MINTER.
Issued with Seamans Ticket 165784; Ships Mate Ticket 63951. A mariner of Ramsgate in 1847.
1851 census: George was at sea when the census was taken. In Church Street, Margate were Harriot (sic) (head, 24, mariner's wife) and Ann (1).
'George Philpott Minter, mariner' appears in an 1859 Poll Book in a list of freemen and electors who did not vote (Source London Metropolitan Archives and Guildhall Library, UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893, at Ancestry, Oct 2012).
1861 census: George (40) was the Mate on the 'Kathleen', at Durham. Son George (15) was a Boy on the same vessel.
1871 census: living with mother (qv).
1881 census: George (56) was Master of the 'Orion', at Southampton.
1891 and 1901 censuses: not found. No trace of death.
Although George married in 1845, no trace of his wife on censuses from 1861 onwards has been found. In 1861, George was said to be married, in 1871 a widower and in 1881 married again. It's not clear whether George's first wife died and that George re-married.
