- The 1939 Register includes Muriel H COOPER, married, born 30 Oct 1898, living at the Bulmer Brickfields.
According to Peter Minter, Muriel was an artist and stained glass restorer.
September 2009: Muriel appears on the website http://lissfineart.com/download/works_on_paper_2005.pdf
Her 'Banquet' c. 1922 is pictured along with the following:
Gouache and pencil, 14E 13Q ins. (37.5 34.3 cms.)
Provenance: the artist's studio; thence by descent
Minter trained at the Royal College of Art between 1921 and 1923, at the
same time as Gerald Cooper (whom she married), Barbara Hepworth, Henry
Moore and Edward Bawden. This evocative composition is likely to date from
this period.
October 2012: Muriel's painting 'View of an Interior (probably in a cafe or night club), with a Dance Performance', painted between 1935 and 1955, can be seen on the BBC website. The original is said to be in The Geffrye Museum of the Home (which closed for refurbishment on 7 January 2018 and is due to re-open in early 2020).
