    • Educated at Kings School, Parramatta, NSW, Australia in 1840 - 42*. Officer in school Army Cadet Force. Lieutenant in the 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot. Died of cholera at Fort William, Calcutta, India.
      July 2015: I'm not sure where these years came from but The Kings School Register (copy of page supplied by Tim Kendall via Helen Connell) shows 1844-45.

      "18th Regiment of Foot. - Ensign Alexander Minter to be Lieut., by purchase, vice Jones, who retires; Thomas Robinson Gibbons, gent., to be Ensign, by purchase, vice Minter."

      From the LONDON GAZETTE, Friday, March 28." Times [London, England] 29 Mar. 1851: 4.:
      "18th Regiment of Foot. - Ensign John Edward Swindley to be Lieut., without purchase, vice Minter, deceased; Ensign Arthur Henry Thistlethwayte, from the 97th Foot, to be Ensign, vice Swindley."

      Buried aged 20, a lieutenant in HM 18th or Royal Irish Regiment.
