Notes |
- From Graham Foley, April 2011:
Mary Ann Foster [is] my wifes great grand aunt. Mary Ann and Joe looked after Annie Foster (b1896) I think from about the age of 10 and was treated as their daughter, when Mary died Annie was the only beneficiary. I have sent you picture of Joe taken September 1903 at Southsea. I am trying to find a picture I have of him with Mary at Buckingham Palace I think he was awarded the O.B.E. His rank when he retired was Lieutenant Commander. I have his Marriage Certificate, it shows his fathers name as Henry Minter retired R.N. also have the death certificate.
Further from Graham, April 2011:
My wife Marilyn's Grandfather is John George Foster brother of Annie. He had told Marilyn many times how lucky his sister was to have lived with Joe and Mary, I can only suggest that Annie returned to her parents when Joe came home from sea. Marilyn (B.1948) can remember her visits to Mary Ann at Tankerton and remembers her death, she thinks it was in hospital at Canterbury.
