      Pat Harrington-Wydell writes:
"A few years [after she married Clayton Sager], Anna contracted tuberculosis (TB), and she spent at least 3 years in a sanitarium. She died (I think in 1944), when her daughter Mary Anne was 16 years old.

An undated letter from Anna Minter’s brother Peter (who was also in a sanitarium, in Rockford, Illinois), says that he had heard she was no longer at the sanitarium. “I was surprised to hear from you finally - that you were no longer at Muirdale. I do wish you would go back... I know it is more pleasant sometimes to be with your child and husband, but for your own health as well as Marianne’s for whom there is great hazard I do wish you would go back to Muirdale, please.” [Pat adds - She did go back, I think.]

A letter of May 1939 to Mary Anne (age 11) from her mother (in sanitarium) mentions “daddy,” which would have been Mary Anne’s stepfather Clayton Sager. “How are you fine and a good girl, do you mind daddy, while Mother is not there. . . . Mother misses you very much and hopes I will be home soon."

Mary Anne says her mother had several sisters who died of TB, a brother Peter (tall, good looking, redhead) who died of TB at age 50 yrs., and one sister who survived: Alice.
Alice Moeller (Mary Anne’s aunt) married Walter Hembrook and had 2 daughters, Barbara Hembrook Zillmer and Shirley Hembrook Kynaston.

After her mother died, Mary Anne Minter was sent to live with relatives in California for her second-to-last year of high school, and then returned to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, to live with a different family while she finished high school. Then she moved into a Home (institution or dormitory) for orphaned young women, where she lived till she married Ralph Wojdal (Wydell) in 1948. She lost all contact with Clayton Sager."
