    Notes
    • Francis appears (as the son of Edward and Ann) in the 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses. He married in Q2 1881, Sarah Ann TAYLOR.

Their first child was Mary Ellen Minter, born in Q1 1882 but died in Q3 1882.

1891 census: Francis, Sarah Ann and Benjamin (7), Ethel Emma (5) and Edward (4), living in Newbold and Dunston, Chesterfield. Another child, probably Francis's, Martha Ann (7) was staying with her grandparents, Edward and Ann.

January 2019: John J MInter has inherited from Rod Minter a birth certificate for Francis William Minter, born on 6 November 1889 at Canal Wharf, Newbold, Chesterfield, son of Francis Minter (an Iron Castings Dresser) and Sarah Ann Minter formerly Taylor. The birth was registered by his mother Sarah Ann Minter on 5th December, 1889.
This child was evidently brought up from an early age by his uncle William Henry Minter and his aunt, William Henry's wife Esther nee Bowler. He appeared with William Henry and Esther as part of their family in the censuses of 1891 and 1901. In the latter he was described as 'son'.

1901 census: Francis has married again, in Q2 1900, to Mary Jane STEVENSON (who, confusingly, appears in the 1901 census as Mary A Minter). They have 4 children with them at this point, Ethel Emma (16) and Richard Henry (8) and 2 of Mary Jane's children, Claude STEVENSON (11) and Ethel C M STEVENSON (8). Martha Ann (17) and Benjamin (17) were with their grandparents, Edward and Ann. Also staying with Francis and Mary Jane was Thomas HEEDS, Francis' uncle.

1911 census: at 23 Canal Wharf, Chesterfield (4 rooms), Francis (head, 50, married, cast iron dresser, railway wgn bldg, worker, born Chesterfield), Mary Jane (wife, 47, married 10 years, 8 children, 4 living, 4 died, domestic, at home, born Nottingham), Richard Hy (son, 18, single, brass dresser, general engineer, worker, born Chesterfield), Claude S STEVENSON (step son, 21, single, pony driver coal mine, worker, born Nottingham) and Ethel STEVENSON (step daughter, 18, single, mothers help, home, born Nottingham).
      Form signed Francis Minter.

1921 census: at 23, Dune Terrace, Canal Wharf, Chesterfield, Derbyshire (both MINTER), Francis (head, 61, married, born Chesterfield, general labourer at Staveley Coal & Iron Co, Staveley Nr. Chesterfield) and Mary Jane (wife, 57y 4m, born Sheffield, Yorkshire, home duties).
