  Notes	1851 census: in Greenwich Road, Charlton, Kent, Stephen (31, hostler) and Sophia (44). 1861 census: the following details seem to refer to Stephen, although there are some significant differences from known facts (the biggest being the daughter): at 1 Sunfield (?) Cotgs, Greenwich, Steven (42, coachman, born Brompton, Kent), wife Susan (sic) (58, born Barrow, Suffolk) and daughter Mary A (19, servant, born Brompton, Kent). It seems likely that Mary Ann was in fact the daughter of William bap. 17 Aug 1823 (see his census entry for 1851) and that she was adopted (probably unofficially) by Stephen. When Mary Ann married in 1871 she gave her father's name as Stephen Minter, blacksmith. 1871 census: living in Stabling & rooms above in Woodville Street, Woolwich, Stephen (49, widower, coachman) and his sister Sarah Ann MILLGATE [MILGATE] (49, laundress), her husband Richard MILGATE (52, bricklayer) and their son Richard (13). 1881 census: at 2 Hill Street, Woolwich, Kent, Stephen (59, labourer) and Ann (56). 1891 census: Ann, 67, now a widow, lodged at 6 Woodville Street, Woolwich. She was living on parish relief and income from needlework. 1901 census: as Annie, 77, Ann was still at 6 Woodville Street, described as living on a pension.
