    Notes
    • From www.legacy.com:
Bevis Jerome (Jerry) Minter, 74, was born October 13, 1948 to Bevis Melburn Minter and Lilla Jane Brown Minter. Jerry passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2023 in Houston surrounded by family.
Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Spurger High School where he excelled in basketball. He was a 1974 graduate of Lamar University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a teaching certification. It was during the following years that he continued with his love of basketball playing Independent Basketball for a number of years.
His teaching career began in 1974 at Warren ISD where he taught for two years. In 1976 he moved to Woodville ISD where he taught and coached girl's basketball and track for six years.
In 1982 he walked away from teaching to begin a career in the logging business with his brother Mike. Together they built Minter Logging into a very successful business. Mike retired in 2008 and Jerry continued with the business until he retired in 2017. After retiring he returned to work, at Gardner Oil for two years.
Jerry was a talker. He loved to talk and tell stories whether it was in person or on the phone. His phone calls usually started before 6:00 a.m. He liked to stop and visit with friends but you never had to worry about him staying long, he could only sit still for a few minutes. If he was in town running errands, you knew where he was when you saw his truck. He was notorious for just getting out of his truck and leaving the driver's side door wide open.
He was a man with many talents and hobbies. He was known for playing golf multiple times a week. He loved to deer hunt but missed the days of deer hunting when you could hunt with dogs. Other hobbies were team roping, duck hunting, quail and dove hunting, and hog hunting. Jerry was a gambler and he was a good one. He always came home a winner. He had a passion for reading, keeping a book with him at all times. If he didn't have a book, he was stopping at the nearest Wal-Mart or Barnes and Noble to get one.
Jerry loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to all their sporting and rodeo events encouraging and supporting them in everything they did.
You always knew where you stood with Jerry. He was quick to tell you what he thought about something whether you liked his opinion or not but at the end of the day he would give you the shirt off his back. He was a hard worker and expected everyone else to be as well. He had an impact on many people and had many friends. Many that only knew him as "Minter."
Survivors include his wife Elaine, brother, Mike Minter and wife Margie, daughter Monica Gunter and fiancé Vaughn Turner, daughter Rachel Arbuckle and husband Chad, granddaughter Sara Welch and husband Kody, grandsons Jett, Kort, and Reid Arbuckle, great-grandson Kaul Welch, and a new great-grandson arriving soon, Kye Henry Welch. Brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, John and Arlene Richardson and Mike and Timber Lee Nettles and a sister-in-law, Polly Minter. Jerry also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Melburn and Tommy and a sister, Elaine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Spurger, P.O. Box 98, Spurger, Texas, 77660.
