    Notes
    • February 2021: quite by chance I found the following at https://sites.rootsweb.com/~hanhorg/people/minter/minter_henry_joseph.jpg:
"Henry Joseph MINTER was the fifth child and eldest son born to Thomas MINTER and Elizabeth Jane PHILLIPS. He was born during 1882 at Paddington NSW.

In his early days Henry (Also was also known as Harry) was uncontrolable and became involved with several recorded incidents with the police for not attending school, In 1893 he was committed to the Vernon and Sobraon ship (located in Sydney Harbour) for juveniles. This was the Juvenile Justice System of the day intended to retrain and rehabilitate junior offenders. In July 1896 he was apprenticed to a W. GRANT of Mudgee NSW. A notation on his record states that GRANT did not want him and in August of the same year was apprenticed to R. BIDGOOD of Smithfield NSW. Here are some extracts from the NSW Police Gazettes iof 1893 and 1896.

1893 Redfern - A warrant has been issued by Redfern Bench for the arrest of Henry MINTER, charged under the Industrial Schools Act. He is 10 years of age, short and stout for his age, dark hair, eyes and complexion; dressed in a grey coat, blue striped knicker trousers, old dark tweed cap, dark stockings and lace up boots. Complainant - Elizabeth MINTER, 49 Cornwallis Street, Redfern.

1893 - Henry MINTER, charged on warrant under the Industrial Schools Act, has been arrested by Constables SUTHERLAND and MOORE, Sydney Police, Discharged - no prosecution.

1896 - Liverpool - A warrant has been issued by the Liverpool Bench for the arrest of Henry Joseph MINTER, charged with absconding from his apprenticeship with Richard BIDGOOD, at Smithfield, on the 11th instant. Offender is 14 years of age 4'11" high, dark hair and eyes, pale face; dressed in dark coat and vest, dark - gray tweed trousers, light cotton shirt, heavy boots and soft felt hat. Supposed to have gone to Sydney.

In 1910 he married Annie O'TOOLE at Paddington. Annie was the daughter of Lawrence and Elizabeth O'TOOLE. His occupation was as a farrier. In 1930 he resided at 15 Torwood Street, Ramsgate NSW. In 1936 his address was given as 35 Promenade, San Souci also in NSW.

Two sons were born the first during 1910 at Newtown and named Henry Vincent MINTER, the second Kenneth Charles was born in 1924. Also a daughter Beryl MINTER was born in 1915 at Annandale. Henry Joseph MINTER died at Kogarah NSW in 1946 aged 64. He was buried at Woronora Roman Catholic Monumental Cemetery, Southern Sydney as Harry J. MINTER. His burial location is Section 5 Position 0253. Annie died on the 9th October 1973 at Fairlight NSW aged 90."

The above text is accompanied by a document which I have copied to Minter Exchange. It is the police record of Henry Joseph MINTER dated 27th June 1893. He was sent to the Vernon and Sobraon Ship for training under Juvenile Justice System of the day.

      From Julie Furey, September 2008:
In 1930 Henry and Annie lived at 15 Torwood Street Ramsgate NSW and Henry's occupation was a Farrier.
In 1936 they lived at 35 Promenade Street Sans Souci NSW and Henry had the same occupation.
Living at 71 The Promenade, Sans Souci when he died in 1946. Death announcement gives name as Henry Joseph.

April 2009, from Chris Horgan's website: Joseph Henry MINTER was best man (Witness) to the marriage in 1932 between Iris Elizabeth BOWDEN [born Minter] (his niece) and John Alfred HORGAN, Chris's parents. Chris adds (May 2009): "According to the NSW BDM record I have for Joseph Henry Minter (b 1882) Paddington NSW it shows as Joseph H. Minter. His son Henry Vincent was always mentioned to me as Vince or Vincent Minter. We Australians have a funny way of using our second names in lieu of our first." In view of this, the record now shows 'Joseph Henry', not 'Henry Joseph'. However, the name on the Electoral Rolls (below) is Henry Joseph.

Australian Electoral Roll, 1930 for Ramsgate, Barton, NSW includes:
Henry Joseph Minter, 15 Torwood St, Ramsgate, farrier
Annie Minter, 15 Torwood St, Ramsgate, home duties.

Australian Electoral Roll, 1933 for Ramsgate, Barton, NSW includes:
Henry Joseph Minter, 15 Torwood Street, Ramsgate, farrier
Annie Minter, 15 Torwood Street, Ramsgate, home duties
Henry Vincent Minter, 15 Torwood Street, Ramsgate, boat builder.

Australian Electoral Roll, 1936 for Ramsgate, Barton, NSW includes:
Henry Joseph Minter, 35 Promenade, farrier
Annie Minter, 35 Promenade, home duties
Henry Vincent Minter, 35 Promenade, Sans Souci, boat builder.

Australian Electoral Roll, 1937 for Ramsgate, Barton, NSW includes:
Henry Joseph Minter, 35 Promenade, farrier
Annie Minter, 35 Promenade, home duties
Beryl Minter, 35 The Promenade, Sans Souci, machinist

Australian Electoral Roll, 1943 for Ramsgate, Barton, NSW includes:
Henry Joseph Minter, 71 Promenade, Sans Souci, farrier
Annie Minter, 71 Promenade, Sans Souci, home duties.

Henry died in 1946. It's not certain that the following refer to his widow:

Australian Electoral Rolls, 1949, 1954 for St Mary's, Mitchell, NSW, at 49 Eleventh Row:
      Annie Minter, no occupation.

Australian Electoral Rolls, 1958, 1963 for St Mary's, Macarthur, NSW, at 49 Carinya Avenue:
      Annie Minter, no occupation.
