Also Lily MARRIOTT (mothers help, 18, born Rougham, Suffolk). Form signed Richard Minter. 1921 census (1): at 16, High Street, Halstead, Essex (both MINTER), Richard Evan (head, 56y 11m, married, born Woodbridge, Suffolk, house furnisher (employer) in Market Hill, Halstead) and Minnie Emily (wife, 54 y 8m, married, born Eye, Suffolk), home duties). 1921 census (2): Richard Arthur MINTER (16y 1m, born Halstead, Essex) was a full-time pupil at Felsted School, Felsted, Essex. Richard Evan (59) and Richard (18) left London for Gibraltar in 1923. Ancestry.com.au - UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 shows their return to London on 5 August 1923 on the 'Delta' (First Class). The ship had started from Yokohama, Japan but Richard and his son boarded at Gibraltar. They gave their address as Bargeddie House, Halstead, Essex. Richard senior was 59, a factor, and Richard junior 18, an articled clerk. According to the 1902 Kelly's Directory for Essex, there was a firm called Rowland, Harrington and Minter operating as a hardware and fancy goods business in High Street, Halstead. The 1914 equivalent has Richard E Minter an ironmonger in High Street Halstead and Richard Minter as a private resident at 13 High Street, Halstead. From the London Gazette 7 June 1904: NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, Rowland Hill Rowland, Emily Harrington and Richard Evan Minter, carrying ou business as General Furnishers and China, Glass and Earthenware Merchants, at Halstead, in the county of Essex, under the style or firm of "ROWLAND, HARRINGTON AND MINTER." has been dissolved by mutual consent as and from the twenty-eighth day of January, 1904. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Emily Harrington and Richard Evan Minter, by whom the business will in future be carried on under the same style or firm.— Dated this fourth day of June, 1904. Ancestry.com.au - UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 has Richard Even (sic) Minter, 66, merchant of Bargeddie House, Halstead, Essex arriving at Liverpool on 26 August 1931 on the 'Duchess of Atholl' from Montreal, Canada. The equivalent outward journey was from Liverpool on the 'Duchess of Richmond' which arrived at Quebec on 31 July 1931. Richard's age is unreadable; he was a factor, born Woodbridge and gave as a contact in England his wife, Minnie Emily Minter, Barjedder House, Halstead, Essex. There is also a record of Richard's crossing into the US on 12 August 1931 at Niagara Falls but the writing on the card is difficult to read.
