Norwich Consistory Court Will, 1840
No. 245. Effects sworn under £450.
This is the last Will and Testament of me Susan BOOTY of Hempnall in the County of Norfolk Widow which I make and publish in manner and form following that is to say I nominate and appoint William ARNOLD of Hempnall aforesaid Farmer [2] and Edward BOOTY of Ipswich in the County of Suffolk Preacher of the Gospel executors of this my will And I authorise them as soon after my decease as conveniently can be to call in collect and receive All and every sum and sums of money due and owing to me from any person or persons whomsoever and to pay and discharge all such just debts as I may owe at the time of my decease my funeral and testamentary expenses And I also authorize and direct them my said executors or the survivor of them his executors or administrators as soon as conveniently can be after my decease to sell and convert into money all my household furniture, plate, linen, china, goods, chattels, horses, Carriages, live and dead farming stock, crops, implements, effects and saleable personal Estate of every description whatsoever. And the money to arise from such sale and conversion and to be collected and gotten in as aforesaid and all other my money and personal Estate after paying the expenses attending such sale and the expenses of my said Executors in carrying out this my will into effect. I give, bequeath and dispose in manner following namely I give to my brother Samuel MINTER of Yarmouth in the said County of Norfolk Coal Meter [3] the sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To my Sister Sarah ARNOLD of Long Sutton in the County of Lincoln Widow the like sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To my brother William MINTER of Kirstead in the said County of Norfolk Husbandman the like sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To my brother Robert MINTER of Rackheath [4] in the said County of Norfolk Husbandman the like sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To my brother in law the said Edward BOOTY the like sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To the said William ARNOLD the like sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To my Niece Elizabeth ARNOLD the wife of the said William ARNOLD the like sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings. To John SELF of Stratton Saint Mary in the said County of Norfolk Husbandman a Nephew of my late husband the sum of five pounds. To Rachel TILLETT the wife of John TILLETT of the City of Norwich Weaver a Niece of my late husbandman the like sum of five pounds. To Rebecca FARROW the Wife of George FARROW of the City of London Husbandman and a Niece of my said late husband the like sum of five pounds. To my Niece Susanna VALLY the wife of James VALLY of the said City of London, Baker the like sum of five pounds. To my Niece Tabitha NOBLE of Dickleburgh in the said County of Norfolk Spinster the like sum of five pounds and to Mary SELF of Hempnall aforesaid Spinster a Niece of my said late husband the sum of ten pounds. And all the rest and residue of the aforesaid money and personal estate I direct shall be divided into six parts or shares And I give one sixth part thereof to the said Samuel MINTER One other sixth part thereof to the said William MINTER One other sixth part thereof to the said Robert MINTER One other sixth part thereof to the said Edward BOOTY. One other sixth part thereof to the said William ARNOLD One the remaining sixth part thereof unto the said Elizabeth ARNOLD his wife Provided Always and I do hereby authorize empower and direct my said Executors or the survivor of them his executors or administrators to retain to and reimburse themselves and himself all such costs charges and expenses as they or he shall sustain…
Lastly I revoke all former wills by me made and declare this only to be my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Susan BOOTY the testatrix have to this my said last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper to the first sheet set my hand and to the second and last sheet set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of November one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven

A Codicil to be annexed to and taken as part of the last will and Testament of me Susan BOOTY of Hempnall in Norfolk Widow dated the seventeenth of November 1837. I give to the widow and children of my late brother William MINTER the legacy and share of residue which I bequeathed to him by my said will to be equally divided between such widow and children. And I give to the widow of the late John SELF the legacy of five pounds which I gave to him by my said will. I authorize my executors named in my said will to carry on the farm now in my occupation until the expiration of my present term and interest therein. And I give to them for that purpose such parts of my household furniture etc. as shall be necessary…
And it is my will and I do direct that my said executors shall employ George NOBLE of Tasburgh [5] in Norfolk wheelwright to superintend the management of the said farming business shall be carried on… I direct my said executors to pay the said George NOBLE the sum of fifteen pounds per annum and provide him his wife and his children with sufficient board and lodging in the farm house in which I now reside…

This marriage was solemnized between us Thomas BUTY X his mark Susanna BUTY (sic)
In the presence of William PILGRIM X his mark Thomas FEEK X his mark
As Thomas could not read or write, and neither of them came from Howe, it is not surprising his name was spelled wrongly.
