- Ancestry.com have Matthew's service record in connection with a WW1 pension claim. It shows that Matthew of 38 Church Street, Chelsea, aged 29 years 296 days, a carman, married, joined the Army Service Corps on 7 April 1917. His next of kin was originally given as Rebecca Minter, mother of 38 Church Street, Chelsea, later amended to Catherine Charlotte Minter, wife of 50 Ebury Bridge, Pimlico, London SW, whom he married on 7 March 1916 at Chelsea.
Matthew was discharged as no longer physically fit for war service on 29 January 1919. He doesn't appear to have served overseas.
The records appear to be incomplete.
1921 census: at 13 Ebury Square, St George's Hanover Square, London (both MINTER), Matthew (head, 36y 2m, married, born Chelsea, London, labourer, M.W.B., Avery Row, London W) and Catherine (wife, 37, married, born Belgravia, London SW1).
