Kelly's Directory 1883 lists Clifton Minter, tailor & draper in Peasenhall. 1891 census: in The Street, Peasenhall, Suffolk, Clifton (head, 41, tailor, born Huntingfield, Suffolk), Ellen N (wife, 38, born Bramfield, Suffolk), Alfred T (son, 14, tailor's apprentice, born Westleton, Suffolk), Arthur C (son, 13, farmer's agricultural laborer, born Westleton, Suffolk), Mary Ann (daughter, 11, scholar, born Westleton, Suffolk), Allan H (son, 7, scholar, born Peasenhall, Suffolk), Beatrice A (daughter, 6, scholar, born Peasenhall, Suffolk), Frederick W (son, 2, born Peasenhall, Suffolk) and Herbert B (son, 11 months, born Peasenhall, Suffolk). 1901 census: at 51 Orford Road, St Matthews, Ipswich, Suffolk, Clifton (head, 51, tailor, born Huntingfield, Suffolk), Ellen Naomi (wife, 48, born Bramfield, Suffolk), Ellen (daughter, 27, born Westleton, Suffolk), Annie (daughter, 17, born Peasenhall, Suffolk), Frederick (son, 12, scholar, born Peasenhall, Suffolk), Herbert (son, 10, scholar, born Peasenhall, Suffolk), Bessie (daughter,9, scholar, born Peasenhall, Suffolk) and Lester (son, 5, born Badingham, Suffolk). No sign of Mary Ann, unless she was entered as Annie, 17 (the wrong age) or of Allan (who was registered as Allan Fenn Minter), although the entry for 'Annie' is the right age to have referred to Allan. Another possiblity for Mary Ann (suggested by Mike Minter in BC Canada) is that she is the Violet at 2 Great Minster Street, St Lawrence, Winchester, Hampshire. She was aged 21 and shown as a visitor with Frederick Batten and his wife and family. As Violet Mary, she may have married in Q2 1901 at Ipswich (4a/1707), Eric Granville S Rule. The rationale for this suggestion is that on the 1901census entry Violet gave her place of birth as Westleton, Suffolk - as Mike Minter points out, Clifton and Naomi Minter and family are the only Minter family identified with Westleton. February 2011: since the available evidence points to Mary Ann having changed her name to Violet Mary, her record has been amended accordingly. 1911 census: at 321a Sherrard Road, Manor Park, London (3 rooms), Clifton (head, 62, married, tailor, own account at home, born Huntingfield, Suffolk), Ellen Naomi (wife, 59, married 38 years, 11 children, 9 living 2 died, born Bramfield, Suffolk), Beatrice Annie (daughter, 26, single, no occupation, born Peasenhall, Suffolk) and Bernard Lester (son, 15, chemical worker, born Badingham, Suffolk). Form signed Clifton Minter. There is also a 1911 entry for Violet Mary, living with her husband Eric Granville RULE in the Winchester district with two children, Gordon Granville RULE (8) and Beryl Enid RULE (6). Bessie Lily appears in the 1911 census - see her Notes. 1921 census: at 321, Sherrard Road, East Ham, Essex (both MINTER), Naomi (head, 68y 4m, widow, born Bramfield, Suffolk, home duties) and Bernard (son, 25y 7m, single, born Badingham, Suffolk, cook, Royal Navy).
