He was 19 when he enlisted on 11 December 1915. Address Crown Cottage, Great Horkesley, Essex, occupation Horsehand. Next of kin William Minter, father, Crown Cottage, Great Horkesley, Essex.
Sidney was in France with the BEF from 31 May 1916 to 16 March 1917. He was discharged as no longer physically fit for war service on 28 December 1917.

He joined the Bedfords when he was 19, a horseman living at Crown Cottage, Great Horkesley, next of kin his father William, same address. His service number was 25624. His pension was 27s 6d for 4 weeks then 8s 3d, to be reviewed in 26 weeks. His disabilities were neuritis and trench feet.
The 1929 Register of Electors for Boxted (copy at Essex Records Office), has an entry for Sydney and Daisy Minter, lving at 47 Colony, Boxted. This entry may refer to this Sydney but the wife's name doesn't tally.
