George drowned on 17 November 1893. Ancestry.com has a copy of the death register completed in a British consulate. It states that George was "Accidentally drowned while boating off the harbour of Aguilas". He was 42, a master in the Mercantile Marine and at the time of the accident was on the British steamer Marcia of London, official number 70611. The register's next entry is for Benjamin George BELL who apparently died in the same accident. He was 22 and his address is given as Fonda Isabel, Aguilas.
George was buried in British cemetery, Aguilas, Murcia, Spain. The website www.gravestonephotos.com has a photo of a plaque bearing George's and seven other names and the inscription "The memorial stones of these people were damaged by flood October 1987". findagrave.com has the same photo.
