| Notes |
- Gladys Ruby was one of the two girls who were alleged to have been the victims of offences carried out by an aviator, Algernon Keen Boyesen. The second girl was Eva Pitt. The case came to trial in February 1915 and was reported at length in the Hampshire Telegraph of 5 February 1915. One of the witnesses in the case was Gladys's mother Mrs Eva Eliza Minter who gave evidence about her daughter's age. Evidence emerged that Gladys had "misbehaved" with someone other than Mr Boyesen. But her story that she was "carried into the bedroom" by Boyesen was denied by Boyesen who said nothing improper had happened with Gladys (although it had with Eva Pitt). In the end Boyesen was acquitted.
Ther's a lot of information on the net about Algernon Keen Boyesen. He lived from 1880 to 1930; qualified for a Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificate in 1915, edited Cosmopolitan magazine and was a playwright and songwriter.
The 1939 Register shows Gladys Ruby BECK born 6 Apr 1900, married, dental surgery reception, living at 64 Blenheim Gardens N W, Willesden Middlesex, with Bertram and Hazel BAYSPOOLE.
