    Notes
    • Richard's 1937 marriage in Malta to Emma Bartolo took place while Richard was a driver in the Royal Army Service Corps. He was 22 and residing in Floriana, Malta, Emma's birthplace.

I haven't discovered what became of the marriage or of Emma but Richard was apparently free to marry again in 1944.

Richard was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Army Service Corps on 30 October 1943. He transferred to the Glider Pilot Regiment on 21 March 1944 and in September 1944 took part in Operation Market Garden. He landed his glider but was captured and imprisoned in Oflag IX A/H, Spangenberg, Hessen. It is said he was killed trying to escape, only a month before the war ended.
