Granddaughter Cally Schneider writes (Jun 2011): "My Gran was always called Val Minter (she would never use Mary - she did not like the name. Her mother wanted to call her Valarie but when her dad went to reg her he put Mary so the story goes)" Note added by John Minter in November 2023: I originally had Mary's birthplace as Queensland but after researching the GUINEA family, I now believe her birth was registered (as Mary C) in New South Wales and that her parents were John and Mary Ada Isabella (nee De Chave) Guinea. Obituary in the Sydney Morning Herald 4 June 1990: MINTER, Mary Katherine (Valerie) - June 2 1990 at hospital, late of Earlwood, beloved wife of Aubrey (deceased), loving mother and mother-in-law of John and Daphne, Kevin (deceased), Mary and Curly, Colleen and John, Laurel and Reg, Maureen and Kon, devoted gran to 27, devoted great-gran to 39 and dearly devoted gran to many families along the way.
