| Notes |
- January 2012: email contact from Darren Murdy, a great-grandson of Stratton Hubbard & Leonora Minter. Darren writes:
"They had 9 children in total of which only two are round today. Leonora made the local paper when she had triplets, the 1st in the Royal infirmary for which she recieved a reward ... something like a gold shilling (i think) I'll need to try and find it if you would like a copy of the paper clipping my grand father was one of these triplets."
The following was published in The News, Portsmouth on Friday 19 August 2005:
years on, the brothers who made history
THE brothers made history simply by being born - and 80 years later there's still a twinkle in their eyes.
George and Tom Hubbard are the two surviving members of the first-ever triplets to be born in Portsmouth.
Their brother John - Tom's identical twin - died at only six weeks old, as the birth was fraught with complications in the limited medical resources on offer in 1925.
But George, of Waverley Road, Drayton, Portsmouth, and Tom, of Hordle Road, Bedhampton, are delighted at reaching their 80th birthday.
Tom said: 'Giving birth to triplets in those days was a risky business.
'But the two of us are both very proud to get this far. We really are two of a kind.'
The triplets were born on Tuesday, August 18, 1925, at Portsmouth Infirmary, which is now St Mary's hospital.
Their mother Leonara Hubbard, who appeared in The News after the birth, received the King's Bounty of one guinea for her historic feat.
