| Notes |
- Admitted as a freeman of Canterbury as a butcher on 23 July 1846 by copy of his father. A butcher at 11 Butchery Lane in 1845 (Kelly's Post Office Directory) and (in the History & Directory of the County of Kent by S Bagshaw, 1847) a pork butcher at 1½ Palace Street, Canterbury. Listed in the Canterbury Poll of 1848.
A butcher at Walthamstow, London between 1855 and 1870. Became a carrier and transport contractor in London. Retired to live in Kent at 3 Cromwell Road, Whitstable in 1898 and at Herne Bay and then Broadstairs.
1841 census: at Broad Oak, Mersham, Kent, Filmer (16) and his brother Geary (22, farmer).
The London Gazette of 2 December 1845 carries notices in which Filmer and his brother William are "hereby required to appear in Court before Edward Holroyd, Esq. the Commissioner acting in the matter of the said Petition, on the llth day of December instant, at one. of the clock in the afternoon precisely, at the Court of Bankruptcy, in Basinghall-street, in the city of London, for his first examination touching his debts, estate, and effects, and to be furth'er dealt with according to the provisions of the said Statutes'
A later edition announced that Edward Holroyd would make a final order on 22 December 1845.
1851 census: at 18 Orchard Street (Gordon Place), Kensington, Filmer (25, born Dartmouth, Kent, dairy man), Margaret (30, born Hendon, Bucks), children Filmer Henry (4) and Edward Kennett (10 months). Filmer's grandmother Maria KENNETT (94, born Kent, an annuitant) was living with him.
London Electoral Register, 1852 has Filmer Hume Minter, 18 Holland Street, Kensington, St Mary Abbotts. Nature of qualification: occupier, house and sheds above £50 rental. It may be just a coincidence but the 1851 census shows that William Minter, born about 1837 of the Kensington group, was living at 18 Holland Street, Kensington. But it could also suggest some connection between the Kensington group and the Canterbury group.
1861 census: in Wood Street, Walthamstow, London, Filmer (not that name on the census - looks like R H) (35, butcher) and son Edward E (11). Filmer's (second) wife Lydia (30) and two children Ellen (4) and Anna C (1) were staying with her parents, Henry (59, farmer) and Ann (55) UNWIN and their son Henry G (15) in Byfleet, Surrey.
London Gazette 2 Jun 1865 mentions "Debtor, as in the Deed - Filmer Hume Minter, of Wood-street, in the parish of Walthamstow, in the county of Essex, Butcher"
1871 census: in Wood Street, Walthamstow, London, Filmer H (45, butcher), Lydia (40), Edward E (20, butcher), Elizabeth G (9, scholar), Mary C (6, scholar), John H (5, scholar), Joseph V (2) and Ellen (niece, 10, scholar, born Stockwell, London) and 1 servant.
1881 census: at 75 Amersham Vale Road, Deptford St Paul, London, Filmer H (55, carcase butcher), Lydia (47 (!)), Ann C (21), Elizabeth G (19), Mary C (16), John H (15), Joseph V (12, scholar) and Ebenezer (7, scholar).
Listed in Post Office Directory, Court Section, 1881, 1884, 1892 as Filmer Hume Minter, 75 Amersham Vale, London SE
1891 census: at 75 Amersham Vale Road, Deptford St Paul, London, Filmer H (66, general carman), Lydia (60), Joseph V (21, carman's assistant) and Ebenezer (16, carman's assistant).
1901 census: at Grand Drive, Herne Bay, Kent: Filmer H (75, retired contractor), Lydia (71), Annie C (41, unmarried) and 1 servant.
1911 census: at 13 Inverness Terrace, Broadstairs, Kent (10 rooms), Lydia (head, 81, widow, married 54 years, 8 children, 5 living 3 died, house-holder, born Woodham, Surrey), Anna (daughter, 50, status not given, born Walthamstow, Essex), Mary JOHNSON (friend, 56, widow married 27 years, 2 children both living, born Nottingham), Beatrice TWYMAN (servant, 17, born Ash, Kent) and Alice MONK (servant, 36, born New Cross, Kent).
Form signed A C Minter.
