  Notes	From findagrave.com, Dec 2014: NEWPORT NEWS - Ruby Minter Leonard, born Feb. 24, 1923, died on July 11, 2008. She was born in the Draper section of Eden, N.C., to Jesse and Susan Minter. A resident of Newport News since 1944, she was a dedicated homemaker. Her family was her life. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the ODU Monarchs, Brooklyn Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Preceding her in death was her husband, Russell G. Leonard; her parents; and an infant daughter, Myra. Also predeceasing her were her brothers, Harvey, Rob, Paul, George and Richard Minter. She is survived by her two sons, Gary Michael Leonard of Newport News, and Gerald W. Leonard and his wife, Jane, of Providence Forge; two brothers, Frank and Jerry Minter of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Viola Medford of Greensboro, N.C., and Lena Wilson of Burlington, N.C.; four grandchildren, Melanie Place of Keller, Texas, Belinda Bardusch of Weston, Fla., Gary M. Leonard Jr. of Hampton, and Whitney K. Leonard of Yorktown; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence Hilling officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Moved to Burlington as a young teen where she met and married Russell Gurnie Leonard in York, South Carolina on December 7, 1940. Three children were born from this union: Myra Olivia b-May 24, 1943 d-May 24, 1943; Gerald Wayne b-April 6, 1948; Gary Michael b-June 18, 1950. Moved to Newport News, Virginia in January 1944
