Services Slated Tuesday For Mrs. Sexton
Funeral services for Mrs. Oscar J. Sexton Sr., will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. David Ray, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. T. Bolding, associate pastor.
Mrs. Sexton, 62, of 3311 22nd St., who had resided in Lubbock and Plainview much of her life. died about 4:20 p.m. in West Texas Hospital.
A Kaufman native, Mrs. Sexton had been in ill health about a year and had been critically ill about three months.
She was a Plainview resident from 1917 until 1933, when she moved to Lubbock with her husband.
A graduate of Plainview High School, she had attended Wayland Baptist College. She was a Western Union Bookkeeper, of her 37 years residence in Lubbock, Mrs. Sexton was chief bookkeeper at the Western Union office some 23 years. She later worked six years at Hemphill Wells.
Her husband, 0.J.(Bo)Sexton, was manager of the Western Union office here from 1933 till his retirement in 1963. He had been associated with the telegraph company 52 years.
Mrs. Sexton was the former Edna Minter. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Minter.
Mr. and Mrs. Sexton were married in April of 1931 at Plainview.
Mrs. Sexton was a member of the First Baptist' Church and the Women's Chamber of Commerce. She had been secretary of an adult Sunday school class of First Baptist Church for a number of years.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park directed by Sanders Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jim of 3407 41st St. and Robert B. of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cawthon of Plainview and Mrs. R. L. Slier of Simms; and six grandchildren.
