From http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/m/i/Thomas-Gregory-Smith/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0149.html:
A member of Company B, 151st Machine Gun Bn., Rainbow Division, he was killed in action, July 28, 1918 near Sergy France. Buried first at Chateau Thiery, his body was returned after the war to the family plot at Monticello West View Cemetery, Jasper County, Georgia. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, French Cross of Honor, Purple Heart, and British Cross of Honor.
There seems to be some variation in the exact date of death. I have adopted the one from the homeofheroes website, which is also the date on Paul's tombstone.
