| Notes |
- 1911 census: at 59 Pounall Road, Dalston, London (5 rooms) (all URIE), James Samuel (head, 52, married, boot maker (laster) in a boot manufactory, born New Cross, Kent), Louisa Caroline (wife, 48, married 29 years, 11 children, 10 living, 1 dead, born St Lukes, London), Louisa Sarah (daughter, 23, single, childrens millinery, born Hoxton), Harriett (daughter, 21, single, basinette hood maker, born Hoxton), Frederick John (son, 19, furrier porter, born Hoxton), Charles Edward (son, 19, telegraph messenger, GPO, born Hoxton), Lilian Gertrude (daughter, 16, cardboard box maker, born Hoxton), Albert Edwin (son, 14, office boy, stationer, born Bethnal Green), Florence Emily (daughter, 12, school, born Bethnal Green), Ellen Caroline (daughter, 10, school, born Bethnal Green), Alice Isabella (daughter, 8, school, born Bethnal Green).
On 31 May 1911, James and all his family left Bristol on the 'Royal Edward' for Quebec & Montreal. The passenger list gives the following detail:
James Samuel, farmer, 52
Louisa Caroline, wife, 48
Harriet, domestic, 21
Frederick John, potter, 19
Lilian Gertrude, domestic, 16
Albert Edwin, labourer, 14
Florence Emily, child, 11
Ellen, child, 9
Alice Isabella, child, 7
Most of the family returned to England on the Royal Edward, arriving at Avonmouth on 15 August 1912:
James, bootmaker, 54
Louise, wife, 51
Harriet, domestic, 22
Lily, domestic, 18
Florence, child, 11
Nellie, child, 9
Alice, child, 8
As can be deduced from comparing the two lists, two of the family didn't return in August 1912:
- Frederick John's name appears on the list of passengers arriving on 20 December 1912 at Liverpool from New York - he was a factory hand aged 20 and had been living in Canada. Frederick must have had itchy feet - he left England again on 17 April 1913 on the 'Benjalla' bound for Sydney, Australia. He was now aged 21, a warehouseman.
- Albert Edwin must have returned before Q3 1919 because that's when he married Blodwen Hill in London, but I haven't found any information about his return voyage.
