July 2018: from James Earley from the Thanet Advertiser and Echo, Tuesday 28 September 1948
"MORE FOOLISH THAN CRIMINAL
John Harman Minter, a 23 year-old gardener of Afghan-road, St Peter's, was bound over for a year by Margate Cinque Ports magistrates on Monday, when he pleaded guilty to stealing two lengths of wood belonging to his employer Mr David Peskin of Callis Court-road.
It was stated that the defendant assisted in the construction of a verandah at Mr Peskin's beach hut at Joss Bay and that he took home two bits of timber which were left over. Questioned by PC Warren he said he wanted them to build a fence.
Ispr. Hann said " He seems to have been far more foolish than criminal".
Minter gave an undertaking that he would go straight in future and said "I promise there won't be any more trouble".
John and Eileen appeared together in the 2007 Electoral Register.
