- Richmond emigrated to Australia on the 'Ormuz' which left London for Sydney on 1 November 1896.
Joined the 19th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force on 7 May 1915 at Liverpool, NSW, Australia at age 41. Next of kin wife Nellie Frances Whytt of "Heimath", Bowral, NSW. Originall a Private, promoted to Lance Corporal on 17 July 1915. Transferred to hospital 28 October 1915. Died of dysentery at sea on board Hospital Ship "Rewa" on 1 November 1915 and buried at sea off Malta.
The above details were taken from Richmond's servce record at Ancestry.com. Although the record runs to many pages, there's no explanation of why Richmond was on a troopship and in the region of Malta when he died. He was presumably on his way to Europe to join the war effort as part of the Australian Expeditionary Force. He was posthumously awarded a Memorial Scroll, a Memorial Plaque and a Victory Medal but these didn't reach his widow until 1921, 1922 and 1923.
Richmond is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial at Eceabat Ilcesi, Canakkale, Turkey
